I could not put the book down during this whole part. My eyes were burning, I was tired, but I just had to find out what the hell was going on. It’s going to be difficult to separate these chapters but I want to keep the posts relatively small. I just really have no words for any of this.

One part Running Scared and One part Sister Wives…

Last time on Hollowland….OMFG~Remy is trapped in a kitchen and shiit is going down!!!

Waiting outside the kitchen door were three young, hungry zombies, but I hadn’t heard them over the dying zombie’s labored breaths. I had been too busy concentrating on the wrong zombie.

I had this sick feeling that Ripley was really just waiting for the perfect moment to eat everyone and I don’t know what else. Someone else would narrate the book because Hocking does not mind just killing people off, how twisted would that be?

We left our trio (now Remy, Harlow, and Ripley) in a deserted house with Ripley growling and Harlow screaming. I’m thinking zombies are invading but…I was wrong…

I feel like a zombie, I’m back from the dead!

We left our girls in the middle of nowhere coming upon a lion fighting off zombies. Oh yes, you know you want to read on!

I just also wanted to take a little time today to remember my baby girl, Hesher. She was our family’s beloved ferret for 8 years (they usually only live 4-5 years, so she got like a double life) and we lost her last year, 01/12/10. I actually woke up today at 12:45am exactly, crying in my sleep, and that happened to be the exact time that she was put to sleep.

I know some people don’t understand why other people get so attached to animals, but she really was like family. Today the “kids” (our four cats), my mother, my brother, and myself went out to her little grave and cleared off the snow and put some flowers and shiny things there for her.

So, it’s already been one year, and it never gets easier. Miss you and love you Heshinator.

~Mandii

PS…She actually inspired me to finally get into the veterinary field. When she started having seizures that night we called 6 or 7 “emergency” animal hospitals to see if anyone could ease her pain and help her go and they all refused saying they didn’t deal with ferrets. Finally we found a place over an hour away that said to bring her right in and they did it for us and didn’t charge us a penny. At that point I knew I wanted to do something more to help animals and my new job is at an animal hospital that does not refuse any animals.

First, I want to apologize big time for not being able to update!! I was in TN visiting family and getting home was a nightmare!! My flight was supposed to leave at 6:30pm on Sunday so I got to the airport at 4:20pm. Checked-in and got through security and was at Starbucks by 4:45pm. Memphis has to have the smallest airport I’ve ever been too!! We were supposed to be boarding at 6:10pm and by 6:15pm there were no workers at the gate. I checked the boards and it still said my flight was on-time but when I checked the United website it said the flight was delayed an hour. Well, this was no good because my connecting flight out of Chicago to get home to Philly was leaving at 9:10pm. So let’s simple math, supposed to leave at 6:30, now not leaving til 7:30, has an hour and forty-five minute flight, so I am getting in to Chicago now at 9:15pm. Ugh. So I had to reschedule my connecting flight which of course the next flight from ORD to PHL wasn’t until 6am =(

Zombie blood is hella gross…

Love that quote! And meant to include it in my initial post. Oops.

So we left off with the quarantine on fire, everyone there is dead, and our trio of girls running away. That’s when a zombie comes out of nowhere and attacks Sommer. The zombie claws at her and his infectious blood gets all over her. Right before he bites into her neck, Remy shoots him in the head spraying more blood everywhere. Sommer of course is freaking out and screaming and Harlow is just repeatedly telling her that she’s okay but Remy knows differently. Remy scans the area for any more zombies…

Ok, so I decided to read Amanda Hocking’s Hollowland because I had just finished the first 2 books in her Trylle Trilogy and really liked her style of writing.  It also didn’t hurt that the book is about zombies (YA zombie novel? Hell yeh!) and it was only $0.99 to buy on the Nook. Cheap is my 2nd favorite price next to free! I didn’t know how I was going to do reviews, not chapter by chapter, because I am not that patient, but I didn’t want to lump too much together at once. So, I am going to try the 5-at-a-time approach, we’ll see how it goes.

Note: I started writing this review thinking I’d do all 5 in one, but damn it takes alot to just get through 1 chapter! So I think it will be more chapter-by-chapter depending on how much is packed into each one. But it won’t be one chapter a day, I will try my best to do 5 chapters a day so we can speed through this!

The very first line of this book grasped me…

This is the way the world ends – not with a bang or a whimper, but with zombies breaking down the back door.
